Travel Training Certification and Instruction
Travel trainers teach people with disabilities, older adults, and interested travelers how to access and use public and private transportation independently. Skills needed by professional travel trainers include knowledge of human development and behavior, an understanding of transportation systems and services, and ability to teach the concepts of interaction with both the natural and built environment along paths of travel.
Easterseals Project Action (ESPA) offers a comprehensive certification program for travel training instructors. Certified through the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida, the program provides travel trainers of all experience levels with the Certified Travel Training Instructor (ctti) credential. All credits are provided remotely by Easterseals Project Action through our comprehensive online learning portal. The program requires 60 credit hours of instruction plus a comprehensive online test and hands-on practicum.
